I have always been a wanderer.
And I have always loved company on my wanders. One of my earliest memories is the time I convinced my sister to hop on our tricycles and wander across a highway to go visit my mom at work. I was 4, she was 3. Back in the 70s children were allowed to wander. My sister became my wandering companion for many years to come. I often talked her into exploring new places. We wandered all over John Pennekamp State Park on our own, discovering our place in the natural way of being in it as a child. When we moved to Michigan, we wandered the woods searching for Bigfoot. We often imagined we found him, but we also discovered wild strawberries, snakes, and tree climbing. We moved often and I was always leading us on an adventure to discover our place.
I am still wandering.
And now I want you to be my companion. I currently live right on the edge of the Southern Appalachian Mountains at the base of the escarpment also known as the Blue Wall. It is my place and it is magical. I want to show you all the wonders that are unfolding here in every season. This place inspires me, shakes me, sets me at ease, and fills me with awe. Some days I am filled with yearning to know what has been here before me. Some days I am quivering in fear of what will come after me. Most days I am grateful for what is here now.
Will you join me?
I want you to come along on my journeys, to see the way the sun falls just so or to hear the sounds of the creek in the little secret cove. Can I take you to my favorite places, the ones where I find the best treasures? Can I tell you the stories of my place held in the rocks and the trees?
But I also want to hear about your place. I want to know your favorite places and hear your stories. I want to be filled with the curiosity that my wandering heart loves to follow.
