This is the time of year when my heart is filled with the hope of more daylight and less cold. The deep gray blanket of winter has been thrown off for a lighter spring quilt. I know the cold will revisit, but it will be bookended by the warm sunshine, cheerful spring flowers, and all around green sprouting. This winter has barely been a winter, but even so, I am ready to move on. Sorry winter, it is just how you and I go. There is much I appreciate about you, but please don’t overstay your welcome. Is anyone else feeling the new energy of Spring now? The readiness to throw off the winter’s sleep?
Winter
Hope
Fills the dark
Cold days of winter fills
My lungs, my body with
Tingling peppermint breath
Release my painful fingers holding
This life, holding hope
For the night sky to articulate
The brightest stars of the year If only I could
Breathe in while I watch them
Dissolve my warm breath
Into a vapor of ice returning
On frozen blades of grass and filling
The fattened buds with life paused
For this painful coldness to pass only
Painful because hope full trees flow
With life.
Waiting For The Light
When the light comes
Over the mountains
Glowing beautifully
With my face to the sun
I am ready to let go
Of troublesome dreams
To open wide my sleep-worn eyes
And be gentle with my yawning heart
Infused with the sweet fragrance
Of an untrodden day
To open my receiving hands
And gather my traveling feet
To step towards the gifts awaiting me
I gather my traveling feet
And open my receiving hands
To an untrodden day
Infused with the sweet fragrance
And, gentle with my yawning heart
I open wide these sleep-worn eyes
Of troublesome dreams
I have let go, I am ready
With my face to the sun
Glowing beautifully
Over the mountains
When the light comes.
